Essay Contest: Take the challenge one step further and win prizes in the process

 

So you've decided to take part in the sustainability challenge, huh? Well, why not take it one step further and give yourself the chance to win some incredible prizes!!?

 

We want all pledge participants to think deeply about why sustainability is important to them, and that's why we've incorporated an essay contest into the pledge! Also, after the pledge is over, we will bring these essays to campus administrators and show them first hand how important sustainability is to the student body at UMD. 

 

After you've completed the 3rd week of your pledge, and most of the 4th week, we are asking students to submit a 250-500 word essays answering the following 3 questions:

 

• Why did you sign up for the pledge?

• Why is sustainability important to you?

• What is one way that you'd like to see UMD change to be more sustainable?

 

BONUS POINTS: Include a video or pictures of yourself participating in the challenge. Be creative!

 

ESSAYS DUE: Friday, April 18th at 11:59pm

1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced at the Earth Day Festival on April 22nd. 1st place picks their prize first, then 2nd place, and then 3rd. All other essay submitters will be entered into a raffle for the remaining prizes.

 

**​Essays will be reviewed, and winners will be selected based on quality by the Student Sustainability Committee**

Kevin Anderson, the Director of Athletics at UMD, and another special guest will come into the suite during the game and personally congratulate the winner!
