University of Maryland ranks 12th in green power use nationwide

The University of Maryland has been ranked 12th in the EPA's Top 30 College & Universities listof green power usage across the country.

The Prince George's County Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee unanimously passed a bill Feb. 17 that aims to ban hydraulic fracturing, a process of extracting underground natural gas deposits, from the county.

In an effort to reduce pollution in Prince George’s County and throughout the state, the Student Government Association voted in favor of a resolution to join a coalition that aims to reclassify waste-to-energy sources as Tier 2 renewable energy under the state’s Renewable Energy Portfolio standard.

Rekindling a sustainability effort from two years ago, the SGA’s sustainability committee passed a resolution, which it hopes to pass next week, requesting that the University System of Maryland stop investing in fossil fuels.
